Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018

Please be informed of the new policy from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport regarding Rowan’s Law. The final regulation is currently available for print or download on Ringette Ontario Rowan's Law, as well as Ontario.ca Rowan's Law. The Rowan’s Law concussion awareness rules came into effect on July 1, 2019.

As a high-level overview:

  •  As of July 1st, 2019, Ringette Ontario associations/teams must not register athletes under the age of 26 years of age (**with the exception of University/College/Post Secondary) in Ringette activities unless they receive confirmation from the athlete and their parents/guardian (if under 18 years of age) that they have reviewed the Minister approved Concussion Awareness Resources within the previous 12-months.
  • Between July 1st , but no later than October 15th, 2019, Ringette Ontario associations/teams must not permit individuals to serve as coaches, officials and team trainers in Ringette activities that includes any athlete under 26 years of age**, unless the individual gives Ringette Ontario association/teams confirmation in the calendar year, but before the first time they serve in that position in the year, that they have reviewed the Minister approved Concussion Awareness Resources within 12 months before the confirmation is given.

This law also requires all registered players under the age of 26 (including parents for players under the age of 18), as well as all coaches, trainers and officials to sign their designated sports Concussion Code of Conduct.

All registered players under the age of 26 (including parents for players under the age of 18), as well as all coaches, trainers and officials must review the age-appropriate Concussion Awareness Resource as noted below:

Concussion Resource Guide - Ages 10 and Under

Concussion Resource Guide - Ages 11-14

Concussion Resource Guide - Ages 15 and Up (including all bench staff and parents of players under the age of 18)

Once you have read and understood the Concussion Awareness Resource guide, all players under the age of 26, all parents of players under the age of 18 and all MRRA Bench Staff must Print, Sign and Submit the Ringette Ontario Concussion Code of Conduct.
