Bear Cubs Ringette Program

Bear Cubs is a place for beginning ringette players to learn to skate, develop their skating ability and to become comfortable with the rules and skills needed to play ringette. We accept players 4 years old to 10 years old with no prior skating experience.

Players in Bear Cubs power skate with certified instructors (we have a 1 to 5 ratio of instruction) once a week and learn to play ringette with other Bear Cubs once a week. Players spend anywhere from 1-2 years in the Bear cubs program before progressing to Rep style ringette. Players in Bear Cubs receive at least 40 hours of ice each season, a team picture and an end of the year banquet.

The Markham-Stouffville Bear Cubs Ringette Program follows the House League Format - all sessions this season are held at Angus Glen Community Centre ice pads on the following schedules:

  • Tuesday Sessions: Power skating/skills training, Time to be defined
  • Saturday Sessions: Ringette skills and scrimmages, 8:00am - 8:50am

The cost for the full program is $500.

Equipment Requirements to play Ringette

  • Mandatory Equipment:
    • CSA approved Helmet and Face mask
    • BNQ approved neck protector
    • Elbow pads
    • Shoulder pads
    • Protective Gloves
    • Hip/Tailbone/Genital Protection
    • Knee Pads
    • Hockey long socks
    • Hockey skates (no picks)
  • Also, don’t forget:
    • Mouthguard (optional but strongly recommended)
    • Tape
    • Water bottle (with a long spout so it can go through the cage - available at Sportcheck or Canadian Tire)
    • Equipment bag

Most big stores such as Canadian Tire, National Sports, Wal-Mart all have start up kits where you can purchase many of these items in a package for about $100.
Ringette cages and sticks are specialized and more difficult to find. Markham-Stouffville Ringette has a rental program for cages and will lend your player a stick and a jersey for the season.

The Markham Ringette Association is organized by volunteers. We request your help with coaching a Bear Cubs team, running the score clock, helping with player evaluations, or by joining an executive committee such as fund-raising, or recruiting. Please inquire about how you can help.
